To be a Christian, you don't have to join a church, be baptized, or clean yourself up. Regardless of who you are, where you have been, or what you have done, Jesus loves you and He will meet you right where you are. God will change you from the inside out.
The Bible tells us that salvation is a gift of God’s grace that is received through authentic faith in Jesus Christ alone. Salvation cannot be earned or deserved by the good things we do. Living a perfect life and dying on the cross, Jesus completed all that was needed to provide redemption for sin. Salvation is available to anyone who will put their faith and trust in Him alone for eternal life.
For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift— not from works, so that no one can boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do. (Ephesians 2:8-10)
Saving faith in Jesus is something that begins in the heart. It causes regret for and repentance of sin as well as a genuine commitment to Christ.
If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,”and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, Everyone who believes on Him will not be put to shame, since there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, because the same Lord of all richly blesses all who call on Him. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 10:9-13)
If you truly believe in Jesus and you are ready to confess it, you can pray a prayer similar to the one below.
I know that my sin has separated me from You. I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son sent to bring redemption. I believe that He died on the cross for my sin and that You raised Him to life. I want to turn from my sins and receive for Your forgiveness. I proclaim that Jesus is my Lord and ask You to save me. From this day forward, I commit my life to You. Please guide me and help me do Your will. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
